Axis-Range report

I thought I'd post this because some guy's were wondering about the Savage Axis accuracy. I picked up my Axis in .22-250 yesterday and took it to the range this morning with three different loads, results follow. First three shots out of the box were with Remington factory 55gr. SP's,3 shot group measured 1.25", not really acceptable for me. Second three shot group with handloaded Nosler 55gr. BT's and 35gr. of IMR 4895, measured .486". Third three shot group with handloaded Hornady 55gr. SP's and 33.6gr. of Varget measured .616". Not too shabby. The trigger is a little stiff but breaks good with little travel. So a bonafied 1/2" M.O.A shooter out of the box for $279, I think I'll keep it. Hope this answers some questions.

Alrighty then!

Re: Axis-Range report

Yes, they had to change the name because of copywrite problems.

Re: Axis-Range report

Not bad for a "fresh" barrel. I imagine your accuracy will continue to improve.

Re: Axis-Range report

Great to see Savage is working to put out accurate low budget firearms. Bad news for the competition.

Re: Axis-Range report

I don't have that problem. Did the release tab break off the clip?

Re: Axis-Range report

Nice shooting. I've been considering a few different rifles for my next purchase, from Remington, to Tikka, to a regular savage with accutrigger.

But after getting the rifle for ~~$300 and a new trigger set for around 90, i would be still be up about $110 and have a mighty fine rifle i wouldn't be afraid to scratch up (minus the cheap scope i would have no use for).

now the only problem is finding one in 308.

Once you go tikka, you'll never have to say eureka!
