Re: T/C Compass recall

has anyone else handled this rifle? It felt incredible cheap and gritty to me

Re: T/C Compass recall

Yes, I was at a shooting expo 3 weeks ago and stopped by the T/C tent and shot both the Venture and the Compass. Both .30-06. The Venture felt like a hefty, pretty good quality bolt gun, but the Compass felt terribly cheap. Only good thing about it was that it was fairly comfortable in the shouldered position. The Winchester model 70 imitation wing safety was gritty and obnoxious looking. The stock and magazine looked cheap, and the bolt felt way too small in the hand, kind of like it belonged on a .22 rifle. I'd buy that Venture any day though, and I love T/C muzzleloaders, so not bashing the company, but I think they're going to miss their mark on that really entry level Compass.

Re: T/C Compass recall

I saw one in .300wm a couple of weeks ago on the range, it shot groups around an inch at 100 yards, for $299.00 I was impressed to say the least. It is ugly, fit/finish are sub $300 on and on...but it shot fine for the money!

Re: T/C Compass recall

My brother bought one in .300 based on the claimed accuracy and price point knowing fit and finish would be lacking. Personally i think this gun is getting heat for being somethig its not...it's an entry level gun and as long as you keep that in mind i think its a decent gun. I use mostly wood stocked guns so to me most composite stocks feel less than desirable. As mentioned previously it feels decent against the shoulder. Proof will he in the pudding when he takes it to the range.

I hadn't even heard of this latest entry in the race to the bottom.

Re: T/C Compass recall

Unfortunately that's what it's become, the days of bluing quality, fit/finish, machine work that we knew back in the sixties, stocks $3 today, barrels $8 today, action $25 today, they actually make more money this way...sad, but true! Compared to most elcheappo deluxe models I actually liked the feel of this one, oh well, roll with the hit !

T/C is a shell of their former self. They sold out to S&W and will never be T/C to me.
