Favorite .30-30 bullet?

What's your go-to 30-30 load? I've mostly used the winchester 150 and 170 Silvertips and Power Points through the years and they've done outstanding.

The best for us was the old Winchester 150 grain open point. Deadly!

Re: Favorite .30-30 bullet?

I'm going to use the 170 grain Power Point this year out of the 336. 1" groups at 50 yards, 2" at 100 so that's plenty accurate for the round. Heard good things about them. Have used Power Points with great success out of the 30-06 and .300 Win. in the past.

150 grain Remington round nose. Used these until i ran out of them. Now its a toss up between Sierra or Hornady 150s.

Re: Favorite .30-30 bullet?

I have used 170 gr Rem hollow points and also the 170 gr corelokt, both worked very well for me. Many years I loaded a bunch of 150 gr Centrex (believe that is spelling) and dropped quite a few deer and many ground hogs.

170gr partition. Not that they're needed in a 30-30, but they shoot excellent in my model 94, and I bought them cheaper than any other 30-30 bullet I could find. Win-win!

I think I'm an alright guy, I think I'm alright

How confident would you guys be using any of these rounds on bear? My 30-30 Win. is my only hunting weapon.

If it's you're only hunting gun and you don't have anyone you could borrow a rifle from, USE IT !!! Just keep your shots close and broadside behind the shoulder.

Re: Favorite .30-30 bullet?

If i were to use a 30-30 for bear as some one has said shoot behind the shoulder. I would also go with a 170 grain ammo.
