7mm RUM?

Does anybody shoot these? Bought some by mistake. They look like they'd break my shoulder if I ever did! What kind of game are they useful for?

Re: 7mm RUM?

My F.I.L. Has one he won on a gun raffle. I don't think he would've bought one otherwise. He uses it for bear season and also in hopes of an elk hunt someday. He doesn't shoot it much due to ammo price.

Re: 7mm RUM?

I'm not a fan of the Ultra Mags. Friend has a 300 RUM and he weighs 300. He flinches. You'll get a bite because they are expensive shells.

You can use it on anything, no such thing as too dead! A real
Long range banger, it'll reach out and touch something !!

Re: 7mm RUM?

The only truly successful member of the RUM family has been the .300. The ultra mag's hold to ton of powder and reach way out there, but real world gains that the ultra's have over more common, balanced magnums like the .300 Win and 7mm Rem are minimal. Plus, the ultras are really overbore, especially the 7mm and 300 (the 338 and 375 are more efficient, but still not great). they do best with AT LEAST 26" barrels, with many custom guns made with 28". They have their place in the shooting and hunting world for those that really want them, but their advantages for hunting only come into play at ranges that animals shouldn't even be shot at in my opinion.

Looks like you have 20 reasons to buy a new rifle in 7mm RUM.

Good luck, Tony
