204..yey or nay?

What are your personal opinions for the 204ruger? I would be using it to shoot foxes and coyotes out to 300yards, would a 223 be better suited for this or is the 204 the better option?

If you are keeping the fur don't use a 223.You may want to visit the predator forum and look around.Fur friendly calibers have been beaten to death.

The 223 is an excellent Coyote gun using full jacket bullets. The 204 is light out past 250-300 yards but it is a good choice to use for Coyote or fox.. The longer ranges the 223 and 22-250 and 220 swift are better bucking the winds.

Re: 204..yey or nay?

The problem with the factory .204s is the twist rate is not heavy for caliber bullet friendly. The .20 caliber bullets can be found up to 55grs (which is as heavy as most people shoot out of a .223 or 22-250) but most rifles won't/can't shoot them that heavy.

I own 2 and love them, I've found that IMO. Most people that don't like them, Have never shot one or know nothing about them and jump on the bandwagon against them. Too light, Too fast, ect.I was just out at the Gun club and there were a couple of the 223 guys packing up cause of wind. I fired my 3 shots at a hundred, covered them with a dime, Smiled the whole way home.I say Buy it if you think you want it.

Re: 204..yey or nay?

First one is a TC Prohunter I put together For my 9 YO to hunt groundhogs and coyotes, No. 2 is a Savage 16. Thats the one I shot today. Both shoot very well, The TC likes the loads longer, closer the the lands, The Savage likes them alot shorter. If your gonna carry it around I would go for a Savage it's alot lighter !

Re: 204..yey or nay?

In my opinion the 204 ruger is one of the best calibers out there.. Click on this link and compare the 204 to the other small calibers. It will give you a good idea of how a 204 compares to other calibers at diffrent distances, violocitys, and kenitic energy.
