Re: 6.5-300 WBY Mag......smokin!!

There's no way a .264 bore can handle that much powder for long!! It'll make more velocity than any other 6.5 without question but at what expense. I've seen 6.5/284 barrels throats cleaned out in 700 shots and this is way worse. It would make one heck of a long range banger, at those velocities that sleek bullet would fly flat a long long way, it'll be great to sight it in and then take it out for hunting seasons only, it's not a weekend shooter for sure, I don't think the throat would survive 400 shots, abox of shells will be at least $75.00 and with premium bullets a $100.00 wouldn't surprise me, but it would be fun to let a few fly...finding brass would be no picnic either, nice idea but certainly not for everyone !

Saw one at Grice's last week. I agree with 6, really cool but not practical for me. But i would love to shoot it!

Re: 6.5-300 WBY Mag......smokin!!

I can't see brass being an issue....should be able to form it from 300WBY, right? Not that any WBY brass is "cheap"...lol.

I've been thinking a lot about rechambering my 264WM to 6.5 Mashburn Super Magnum (essentially a 300 Win Mag necked to 264 cal). The 7mmMSM gets a lot of good press.

Cost for reamers, dies, etc are sobering.

The reason I'm contemplating it at all is the rifle is a bit short-throated from the factory. At some point, I'll either have the throat opened a tad to be more "normal," or go to the MSM chambering. Don't know yet. I have nearly no practical use for any more horsepower than the 264WM provides, nor really do I fully use the 264 to begin with....buy since when does practicality enter into this?

Better to have it and not need it, than to need it and not have it

+1 !!

Buddy of mine just bought one in a Terramark, so........ I just MAY get to play with it.

I just can't even come CLOSE to justifying one, already having a 300 Wby and a 7-STW.

Why ???

I guess there are those who like to run with the big dogs and there are those who are quite content to never leave the porch.

I used to think it was cool to run with the big dogs too at one time. Then I grew up.
