Went shooting with grandson.

I took his 30-06 for him to shoot and one of my new 308s.
I have a few pounds of Varget so i loaded up some 150 Sierra BT.s for it.This 06 shoots IMR-4895 and 150 Sierra Pro Hunters really well. Not going to get in to how tight of groups, but really great.
The Bts and the Varget shot to the right and high but a good group. Just for the heck of it i had some of the 4895 loads and we shot a couple of them and they were right where it was last fall.
For some reason i always was figuring that a BT bullet would be more accurate than a Flat base one. I know better but???? Maybe long distance but not at 100 or so yards?
My new 308? I had loaded Varget and the Sierra 150 BTs for it also. That gun needs some work on itself and then the bullet/powder combo, but it went bang and hit the paper, you know.
That's the first time i shot since October last year in Seniors doe season! My 06 i left at home.
Man,after not shooting for a few months, that first shot sure wakes you up!!!!!!!!!!!!

Re: Went shooting with grandson.

No better way to spend a slightly cooler day after the hot dry summer we are in. Yeah, there's no evidence of boat tails shooting more accurately at any distance, they usually shoot flatter by a good bit the further out you go but not necessarily tighter groups. Yes, an old /06 will get your attention off the bench after 8 months of hibernation. Hopefully this weather will lighten up so lots more will get the itch, I wonder he much the shortages for the last 5 years has affected the amount of shooting going on, seems to me there's nowhere near the amount going on these days..

Re: Went shooting with grandson.

The club i go to is a BR club. We have 14 cement benches to shoot from, nice flat mowed lane, 100 yards only,in a little hollow and surrounded with trees.
I have only run into folks shooting a few days before deer season! The Br guys must all live away from the club but i know a lot of them have their own shooting ranges.
I slowed down a lot due to the shortages. As you know it goes from one thing to another? Powder, than primers, then bullets and now brass.for me anyways.
