Re: 30-06 or 7mm wsm

I get an itch like that from time to time. Might as well scratch it. I would try to sell the 7mm outright if you can. I'm a guy that don't like to deal with a hassle unless I have to so I would probably try to trade it.

As far as the cost of ammo goes I assume you don't reload? In that case scratch the itch. If you do reload the cost difference between the two is minimal. Not worth it.

The biggest thing I see is changing from a bolt to a pump. I like pumps. Every center fire rifle I have is a pump.

IMO you miss the pump? Like averything else, it's what you are comfortable with. If you really want a pump then by all means have at it.

If you are an accuracy freak stick with the bolt gun....or another bolt gun that has easier to find or cheaper ammo. My pumps shoot MOD (minute of deer) within normal hunting ranges. Some will argue they will shoot as good as any bolt out there.

In any case it's up to you.

Re: 30-06 or 7mm wsm

I def miss the pump mine was a great shooter. every deer i shot at went down. I dont reload so factory 06 ammo is much cheaper even in premium loads.

It seems like you have answered your question, for all the right reasons!! Getting the 06 sounds like a no brainer for you.

If you liked your old 7600 in '06 and want another one then you gotta do what ya gotta do.
Put the WSM in the classifieds on here and maybe you can sell it.

Our forefathers didn't bury their guns. They buried those that tried to take them.

Re: 30-06 or 7mm wsm

Sounds to me like somebody had alraedy made up their minds...........

I like a pump gun not because I can shoot it faster or anything like that. I like a pump gun because it is comfortable. Just like my shotgun. It's a feel thing for me. Mostly it's comfort.

It's just like a job. I don't care what you do, but just make sure your happy.

Re: 30-06 or 7mm wsm

The difference between 7mm WSM and the 30-06 for Winchester Silvertips is @ $6. I looked at the ballistics for the two and the 7mm WSM really outperforms the 30-06 in all categories.
I'd stick with the 7mm. My next rifle will be the 7 mm WSM, probably a Rem model 700 BDL.
