Best Factory 30-06 Loads for Deer

I have been using Winchester Ballistic Silvertips for a few years now. They have been good for me. Has anyone compared the accuracy of factory loads? What do you think are the best?

A hard question to answer for sure..What shoots well out of one rifle, may not shoot well in another, and ones opinion will side with the ammo that performs well in his own gun..Remington core-lokts have a huge following, as well as a huge amount of folks who wouldn't give you a nickel for one..Same can be said for Federals, Winchesters, etc.

I think with the 06, you can use any factory load that shoots the best in your rifle for deer, anything from cup and core Wincester, Remington, etc to any premium bullet you desire if it for deer. You have a large abundance of power to make up with any bullet shortcomings.

Personally, I use handloaded Nosler Accubonds in my 06.

Rem. core-lokts. You'll have a hard time beating them. I'm willing to bet there's been more game taken with them then any other factory load.

Re: Best Factory 30-06 Loads for Deer

Personally for me I shoot rem. coreloks 150grain out of my savage 110 and they are great, no complaints what so ever. 2 Years ago I figured I would try a box of more expensive ammo so I bought silver tips. They just didn't shoot "as nice" For me and I never took them afield. So i have no problem sticking with the cheaper ammo.

Re: Best Factory 30-06 Loads for Deer

I've tried Core-Lokts, three types from Federal, and Hornady's 165 gr. Interbond. They were all pretty accurate in my '06 but with the Interbonds I can shoot 3 holes touching, 2.5" high at 100 yards. I haven't been able to get a deer with them yet. That said, the only deer I ever hit and lost was with Federal Premium Tipped Trophy Bonded Bearclaws, 180 gr.. A friend and I searched for an hour and a half and the blood trail stopped, I guess it laid down and clotted up then walked away. Needless to say I won't be using Bearclaws anymore.

I used 150 grain Remington Core Lokts when I had my Model 70 in .30-06 and it shot great with those shells.

I handload my 06 loads with Hornady 165 bt's. I used to load Rem Corelkts for nephews in 165 sp's and they had great success.

Re: Best Factory 30-06 Loads for Deer

I shoot the 150 gr win ballistic tips
Back in the 90's my dad and I did hand loads with nosler's ballistic tips
They were the best load that we had found at the time
They would keyhole paper at 100yrds
These winchesters are real real close to the hand loads
I no longer hand load and I doubt I will shoot anything but the Win Ballistic tip from here on out
I am not afraid to take a pop at a deer at 300+ yrds and the ballistics on the ballistic tips add alot of down range capabilities. I have complete confidence in them.

I've not found a 30-06 yet that didn't shoot either the Federal 150's or 180's very well. Either one makes for a great factory deer load.
