Go to the auction sites. I use GunBroker. Make sure you are looking at the "COMPLETED" auctions. This will give you an idea of what they really sold for and pictures of what it really looked like. An other benefit is you can see how many times the same gun was listed for before it was purchased.

Re: Firearm Valuation Sites ?

Takes some extra effort to follow the prices asked/prices sold for, but it's probably a better handle on current values, than much of anything else?

What someone asks and what someone might get, are two different critters usually. Asking prices at gun shows are often nuts in my opinion and so are some of the prices one sees on internet sites. How desirable something is, coupled with how much somone will spend, generally sets the selling price.

Have a buddy that attends shows regularly and does pretty well. Last year I gave him a rifle to sell for me and tagged it at $400. Highest offer he got was $300 that weekend. Another show, another day, might've fetched what I wanted? I have seen exactly the same rifles priced at much higher than $400 at shows.

And there are regional influences sometimes on internet sales sites, depending on the firearm.

Rem. pump rifles aren't held in as high esteem in most other parts of the country, as they are here in PA, for example.

I have bought/sold/traded firearms quite a few times over the years, as most of my stuff is used. Some folks give 'em away, others always seem to want more than the market will bear.

Some folks' learnin' curves just look like circles...3A Camp/also hunt 4B
