Model 7 .308

What you guys think would be a good cartridge for bear and deer? I'd like to go with a 150 gr core lokt but also thought about 150 gr hornady sst (love the sst out of my 20 ga) maybe I'll go with a heavier gr bullet I'm not sure yet. Just looking for input

A good combo deer/bear load would be a 150 grain TSX or one of the many bonded bullets. If it was just deer I would be shooting something like you mentioned. I know that many bear have fallen to the cup and core bullet, but why not err on the side of caution. Never know when a 600 pounder is going to break from the laurel.

Re: Model 7 .308

I can't speak to bear, but I have the same gun and all I shoot are Winchester 150gr factory. I've never had a deer go more than 3 steps. Most fall in their tracks. I won't ever use anything else unless I feel like having fun. I can't imagine that it wouldn't be just as effective on bear up to a few hundred pounds. I've only managed to recover one round on a deer that I've shot and that one went the whole length of the deer and lodged just under the skin of the hind leg. A few more grains of powder in that round and it would have passed clean through, going from one front shoulder to the opposite hind.

Remember, shoot straight and shoot often.
Good... Bad... I'm the guy with the gun.
