8mm Remington Magnum

Any owners of a 8mm Remington Magnum and what are your thoughts?

Re: 8mm Remington Magnum

don't own one only because it fills a gap I do not have. But think of it as the .300 Wby's chubby twin or the .340 Wby's skinny brother. It is a butt-whoopin round !!!

Re: 8mm Remington Magnum

I have one, 700 classic. Years ago they dumped cheap for slow sales. A round there was no need for, but a hard hitter. Took mine on a few elk and deer hunts out west. Deer do the 4 leg split splat, and I shot a 5 x 6 bull, jumped from its bed, like an 800 lb. rabbit ! Rolled back down the hill to about 10 yards from me, neat memory.

Re: 8mm Remington Magnum

I saw an 8 mm Magnum shell standing on my dealers counter and I had to have one as soon as it came out some 20 years ago or more.....Mine shot 1 1/4" groups with Remington 185 gr. Core-locs and I now shoot 150 gr. Sierras from it......It is an awesome round, accurate, powerful and flat shooting.....I could never see why the 338 Win. persevered, while this one died !

Re: 8mm Remington Magnum

I have the same 8mm. Yes, the .338 mag did kill it, but it is still a great larger animal caliber. I hunted elk in Wyoming with it several times, but never got a shot. My "out West" days are over. I do apply for a PA elk permit each year, but never selected. Great caliber.

Re: 8mm Remington Magnum

The .338 had exactly a 20 year head start on the 8 mag. It was established worldwide and popular. That's a nut the big 8 could not crack. I have seen the most 8 mags in Alaska, very popular there with the one gun for everything man.

Re: 8mm Remington Magnum

It shoots a 200 grain bullet at the same speed a .300 Weatherby does. And the .300 Bee does it with better SD and BC.
