Bought a 10 22 takedown model.

Not sure what your definition of middle of the road is but if you don't want to spring for a Leupold, which is never a mistake, have a look at a Weaver rimfire model:

why mess with a rimfire scope, when you can get a 1" scope fairly cheap and will be clearer and shoot probably better. both my 22s have regular rifle scopes on them.

Because the parallax is usually set at 50-60 yards on a rimfire scope. Also, we are talking about 1" scopes, not the old 7/8's or whatever they were tubes from the old days.
