Federal Vital Shok Sierra Game King BTSP

I have the above bullet in.308 165 grain. They shoot well out of my rifle but never used them on an animal. Has anyone used thes for deer and what your thoughts on them?

I haven't shot anything with the 30 cal 165 gr bullets but I have with 25 cal 117 gr Gamekings. I really like them. Pass through shots with massive internal (organ) damage.

Re: Federal Vital Shok Sierra Game King BTSP

I used 100gr 25 cal. Game Kings for deer out of my 257 years ago. They certainly shot nice groups, but the bullets virtually exploded on deer. I only ever recovered jackets from deer....never any lead. They almost always separated from my autopsies. Got tired of worrying about them failing altogether and switched them out for better bullets that didn't come apart.

I consider that separation a bullet failure. The bullet still killed and did the job, but every time after the first time I pulled that trigger I was leery.....didn't need that so made some changes.

Keep in mind though that was 25cal....might be a different story with 30 cal. My buddy put five shots into a bull elk with 150gr Game Kings from his 270...had similar result as my 257. I warned him too, but he wanted to try them. He switched to Partitions for elk!

You really under estimated the ramifications of the boondoggle you have just perpetrated!
