25 wssm ammo

So I just traded for a winchester model 70 25wssm and am having trouble finding ammo for it , the only place that I have found that actually has it is called lohmanarms.com and even there is $45 a box plus shipping , any help pointing me in the right direction to buy loaded ammo is greatly appreciated

You will have trouble finding ammo as long as you own the rifle. I don't know of any companies that even chamber for that round. I would buy as much ammo and brass as I could. If you don't reload, start or buddy up with someone who does. You can always try selling or trading the rifle, but it might prove to be a tough deal. Good luck.

Agreed , if you found ammo for the 25wssm buy as much as they have , or at least as much as you can afford , ammo for this caliber will only become more scarce as time goes by.

Well son, you have to become a searcher, whether you realize it or not. You're no longer a looker in one small part of one state.
And you're already using the internet, a search that can be nationwide, ordering by internet or mail.

The trick is to enter the name and see what turns up. It is not glamorous. It's a search. Instead of searching for "huntingpa" you'll search for the more general "25wssm".
Instead of looking at "Joe's gunshop" that might serve two in 20 miles, the internet gives you the option of searching for a dealer that might serve 25 or 50 in 2500 miles.

Good luck. I found one possible in a quick check. It deals nationwide.

Midway USA is a well known dealer.

You own the rifle now. Old ways change.

(Sorry I entered this over two hours. I had a pesky program update interupt and I got in two more hours of Saturday sleep.)

I would check into having it chambered to another more available cartridge.Probably cheaper in the long run.If it is even possible.Don't know much about the wssm family,I shyed away because I didn't think they would last.

Yeah, welcome to the world of Hand Loading!

Guns and Ammo, Reloading for the 25 WSSM

but hey, take pride in having a cartridge that hardly anyone else has!

As a shortcut to your own internet search, you can use ammo seek's web search:

Ammoseek

but they show nothing at the moment.

These guys list it as back ordered:

Reed's custom ammo

Best of luck!

Re: 25 wssm ammo

I checked ALL of my online sources and found nothing in stock at any of them.

Gunbroker has some ammo listed and it looks like a hot commodity....though it looks like rifles are selling too so maybe you can off-load that rifle and get something else that ammo is available for?

You really under estimated the ramifications of the boondoggle you have just perpetrated!

value goes up as supply goes down....I guarantee there was a conversation telling another hunter to rebore his 22 hornet pre 64 model 70 because ammo was hard to find, and now it would be worth nothing. Learn to reload, buy 100 pieces of new brass, and you will have an awesome flat shooting caliber that will only go up in value because there are very few available.

Sure does.
I have a 17HM2 that shoots Eley into little tiny holes @ 50, CCI-Hornady not so much. When Eley ceased production the price more than doubled in week. I used to buy it $49/500 from Ammo To Go. After Eley quit some on Gunbroker were starting the bids at $75 and up for 100.

As luck would have it I ran into old friend at the range with 1K, he had sold the rifle and asked if $75 was fair. I jumped on it like a bulldog on a pork chop.
