1940 Mauser 8mm

My buddy has this gun. It was his deceased fathers. It has German symbols on the barrel. Any clue as what to look for with these? Any info online? What do the numbers mean? Upside down letter on side of barrel. Very nice action. Not exactly a great safety setup.

Most likely a K98K.

Far more collectible/valuable if there is no import mark (underneath the muzzle usually). SS markings would make it a little more valuable.

I have a russian capture K98. It's a lot of fun to shoot.
