Question about rust and older gunmetal

I have a Sako Finnbear from the late 60s and whenever I take it out hunting I often get a little surface rust on the crown and in the first inch of the barrel from the muzzle. This is the only gun of mine that rusts like that. Is there anything I can do to prevent it? Or is it just a fair weather gun? Thanks.

Non est inquirendum, unde venit venison.

Re: Question about rust and older gunmetal

Sounds like the bluing is wearing off, keep the surface oiled and clean and oil after using it and you should be fine. Could refinish if you like.

Re: Question about rust and older gunmetal

Tape the muzzle closed with a single layer of electrician tape.

Weapon Shield is the latest and greatest rust preventative, by the way..
