Twist Rate and Ammo

I bought a Savage axis .223. I am pretty sure the twist rate is 1 in 9. Would a heavier bullet be better or should I stick with 55 gr.

Re: Twist Rate and Ammo

55 will work fine but a 9 twist will allow you to shoot the heavier bullets if you so desire.

Re: Twist Rate and Ammo

I have found a 9twist is pretty good for bullets from 50-69 grain.

Re: Twist Rate and Ammo

I had a savage with a 22 inch bull barrel 9 twist and it liked 55's but LOVED 69's. Federal gold medal match would make one ragged hole. Just use quality ammo....quality ammo equals great results. This particular rifle would hold 6 inch groups at 600 yds if i did my part
