Best pistol front sight color?

Have a white front sight and red rear sight on my Ruger SP101, but yesterday at range the white front sight was hard to pick up on white target. It looked great on a black bullseye target. Is there another color that is good for all-purpose shooting?

You just shot an unarmed man. Well he should have armed himself!!! Clint Eastwood.

My super redhawk has an orange front blade that is pretty nice.

In bright light, a red front sight will appear to be brighter. At dusk/dawn/twilight or other low light conditions, the rods in the human eye pick up the color green more strongly.

Take a look at a fiber optic archery sight for an example. When it gets almost dark, the red/orange/yellow pins become very difficult to see, while you can usually still see the green pin fairly well.

Re: Best pistol front sight color?

For paper targets, white is the best as the bull is black. For hunting in the woods white is good, unless there is snow then orange/red is better.

Contrast is what you want, for YOUR specific target background. I see many people shooting at black bulls with white front sights, just figure they don't know better.
Orange is an OK all-round color.
