Re: .45 colt lever action

I own two Rossi 92's, one in 357 mag and a 44mag, both of these are OK rifles ,the 357 is probably the most accurate of the two. It has been reported that Rossi has some quality control and that might be the case . I would recommend if you go the Rossi route, to try and fine one in stock somewhere as opposed to ordering one ,so you can inspect it before you buy. Both of mine are acceptable and I was able to pick both up at Gander MT. they were in stock at the time and I was able to inspect them.

The 44 has been somewhat of a problem child because of an oversize bore diam.of .433. The problem has been overcome with a custom bullet mold and the gun is dedicated to cast bullets.

Rossi actions are very strong, but a little rough and gritty when new but there is plenty of instruction available on how to tune and smooth this out.

I'm satisfied with both of mine, because I just can't afford a winchester. Marlin I have no experience with.

Here is a good link If you get interested in a Rossi

Re: .45 colt lever action

From what I read Henry has a top notch reputation, and customer service is second to none,if you should ever need service. I am told a phone call to Henry customer service will most likely be answered by the owner himself.

If I can ever justify another lever gun I will look hard and long at Henry.

Re: .45 colt lever action

I can only tell you about the Winchester 94 trapper model. been shooting them in 45 colt for about 25 years. hand loads mostly for deer hunting. shot everything from 200 grain hp's to 330 grain cast bullet and everything in between. awesome little gun and strong as a vault for "hot" loads. my son has carried one for 16 years deer hunting and you never have to look for the deer. with the loads that are available now, we probably won't be reloading for it.

the best would be the marlin trapper but you'll pay dearly for one of those these days, so henry.
