Erie NWR

I hear alot about Geneva & Hartstown but don't hear Erie NWR come up. Is it heavily hunted too? Anyone hunt it?

It has never been heavily hunted due to only designated areas are hunting permitted. You need to go to head-quarters and obtain a map of the areas (there are two). Do your homework and you may score. Better for deer than fowl.

forget the seneca division for deer...unless it changed. i found 3 sets of deer tracks off Johnstown road two years ago in the snow.

the waterfowl hunting off swamp road should be good but there are areas that are a NO GO for waterfowl. you will need a map and a free permit to hunt on the refuge. both can be obtained from the information kiosk at the intersection of route 408 and swamp road.

The maps are online and looks like they did way with the free permit, it wasn't for waterfowl anyway (only deer & upland). I might check it out.

Federal land is different. you also need a permit to hunt predators after dark. there are some nice bears in the seneca division too. they dont allow bear hunting though.
