Offseason scouting

After getting started late in the game last year in my first season hunting, I didn't get much scouting done. I'm trying to get an early start for next year, and wondering what I can learn from scouting in the spring and summer. If I find birds now, will birds generally be there during the season?

I don't think it means much personally, but scouting now is a better hobby that sittin in a bar, or on the couch. I just wouldn't put much confidence in scouting now. Scouting during the season is where it's at. Problem is, most of us are hunting, when the best scouting should be getting done.
