Now Here's A Weather Forecast...

....we can all agree with.
I'm sitting here in South Jersey looking out the window and it looks like summertime out there. Been seeing buffys and brant but they ain't moving. Was watching a large flock of brant frolicking and playing around this morning. Who can blame them for soaking up this kinda weather and doing nothing all day?

BUT according to my trusted weather source, Mr. Joe Bastardi, that's all gonna change.

Could even be as cold as Dec 1989.

Bring It On!

I've spent most of my money on Waterfowling, Women and Whiskey.
The rest of my money I just wasted.

Yep maybe !! If it pushes. Looking like a slower weak front. Need the heavy north wind to push. Maybe in 10 days or so. Cold temps will at least freeze up things.

I'm considerably farther north than you (Port Leyden, NY) and what I'm seeing up here is all manner of open water and overnite lows that just arent low enough to even form skim ice.
I just got back from a 25 mile drive and what I saw was where corn was cut for silage cover crops are up, and in other fields corn is now being harvested as grain.
I live right next to a medium size river up here and can look out the window next to my computer and see birds. The family groups of resident geese are gone, but there's three big flocks that probably came down from the provinces as things began to freeze. They've got corn to eat, green fields to graze, and open water, so you know they've got no reason to move on just yet.
I use Wunderground as a weather source and they're saying that we'll be seeing daytime temperatures in the low 30s and overnite lows in the low 20s beginning next wednesday. That just might bring those water temperatures down enough to start forming ice and the birds will be forced to move.

Yep looking like a very cold blast going to hit soon, ground temps so so, but winds aloft are going to move artic air well into the eastern half of US. I'm still waiting to see if ground forecast is going to adjust to show 20 degrees below normal as there calling for.

I could care less now what the weather is going to be. Our duck season closes next Saturday. Been a total bust this year. Shot a teal yesterday and 2 wood ducks Wednesday. Maybe I'll be able to get some ice fishing this year.

Spunky, you might get some good duck weather up there this next week.
Did a scouting mission this morning in the Coastal Zone of NJ, saw the 4 B's...Buffys, Brant, Black Ducks and even some Bluebills.
Course they're mostly doing nothing and just sitting on the water, I'm hoping with this next weeks weather the action will pick up.
The season down here runs till Jan 27th.

I've spent most of my money on Waterfowling, Women and Whiskey.
The rest of my money I just wasted.

Charlie, Brant don't do anything til low tide anyway. I have sat and watched them for hours, then the tide changed and it was all over in a few minutes. BTW, I don't shoot them any more, they are awful eating at least in NJ and the guy from New Holland My buddy Fritz gave them to died. I had old timers tell me that when Brant are in fresh water for a while and stop crapping green they are pretty good.
