Strut, I have see instructors give oral tests to kids who cannot read, at least contact your Warden or your regional office and speak to the Information Education Supervisor, they are in charge of hunter ed and it wouldn't be the first time they have gone above and beyond to help a kid. I was not indicating you did not want to pay for a license, I was saying the whole reason for the mentored youth program is to get interest and sell licenses and that I can't imaging they would allow a mentored youth permit to go on forever in response to the post that was talking about the program being expanded to older kids. I understand perfectly what you were saying.

When you are up to your butt in alligators, it is hard to remember your intent was to drain the swamp. Stay focused!

All replies and PM's understood and well taken. Thanks to everyone for all the info, help and support !!!!

This is GOING to happen. Hopefully, through PA channels. I have a definite place for him to tag his first spring bird...……….but...……..a Merriam's...………….. I'd just hate for him to have to start out his turkey hunting career THAT way !!!

I sat in on my son's HTE course, and the instructor talked me into actually taking the exam, since the HTE Card would be beneficial to have if I ever wanted to hunt in some other state that require one.

Anyhow, there was a lad that visibly had some type of learning issues. He sat directly in front of us, and there was absolutely no way this youngster was going to pass the test on his own. The instructor(s) realized this, and one actually sat with him when it came test time, and coached him into the answers... Kinda by way of process elimination ? Soooooo, I believe contacting the PGC prior to taking your son would be beneficial, and more than likely, some sort of guidance can be arranged at test time ? Now that's just me basing things on what I witnessed.

Good Luck. Wish you guys well.
