They are HORRIBLE. Many things are edible. The spring mushroom "Dryad's Saddle" is edible, but GOOD ? That's another story. Shoe leather is probably edible, but.....
I actually like the wild onions in a roast. I found and picked a bunch of leeks last year in New york while turkey hunting and they were terrible. I cleaned and scrubbed them just lie a regular onion and they just seemed to taste lie dirt.
I actually sit and eat wild onions raw right out of the ground. Peel off the outermost level and the dirt comes with it. I like them. Also, the stems can be used kinda like chives. I roasted a hindquarter of a young deer in beer with a bunch of chopped up onion grass for a potluck dinner, even the vegetarians couldn't stop eating it!
1.blend up some leeks
2.take them out of your blender
3.put half a stick of cream cheese and a tablespoon of olive oil in your blender
4.add leeks to taste
5.add bacon bits to taste
I think it's called onion grass. Good stuff. Cut it up and bake it in with your mac n' cheese or any type of casserole. Just use it sparingly, like an herb.
When I was maybe 8-10, a Few of us in the Neighborhood used to get Wiffleball games going in the alley between the houses... 1 of the guy's had that wild garlic or onions which ever it was growing all thru his yard, We used to pull a lot of the tops of it and ball it up and stick it in our cheeks and chew it like chewing tobacco.....We called it "Boogieman Chew" and we spit Green...
We all thought it was the Greatest thing and we felt we were like the Big League Baseball players we watched on TV with the Big Chew of tobacco in their cheeks when they were out on the fields..
Never tried it since then but from what I remember, the tops were not all that bad of a taste!

I just put some in chicken soup, and also in scrambled eggs and it tasted pretty good, adding a nice onion/garlic type flavor.
