what am i doing wrong?

I have several traps out which are all set on sign. Heavy travel areas and all baited. I keep having poop left beside the traps and sometime the bait is gone.
I can catch fox every day of the week but these cats and mice at my house are driving me crazy! I've onlysnapped 1 mouse this year and 0 cats. Cats use the mulch as a toilet. Get in my garage if the door is open for 2 minutes. The mice are smarter than me.

Re: what am i doing wrong?

I had a mouse cleaning the bait off my mouse trap a few years ago. My brothers advice was to "be smarter than the mouse."

Thanks bro!

I followed his advice, and did more than just bait the catch (or what we call the pan). I smeared bait on the hammer and holding bar so he had to work more of the trap than just the catch, and I nailed him that night!

I can't comment on the cats! But they sure gotta go if you have mice problems with them around!

Re: what am i doing wrong?

Mouse bait = either peanut butter or cheese melted around the trigger to make 'em work it. I stick a piece of dog food in the goo too. Nightlatching those traps may help some too! LOL! Seriously, I've found them to have very heavy triggers for mice - the yellow plastic ones seem to work better but are a bugger to get set just right.

Cats - let the garage door open for them and trap them in there - live traps. Or close the door after they're in and deal with them otherwise. Or nite vision scope......

I've always had good luck with blind sets between shrubs and the foundation for cats. Also dirtholes in prime k9 locations.
Put chunks of cracker in peanut butter for the mice. If I have a Houdini mouse, I'll tie 6# mono to the pan then wrap it around the peanut butter.

Blind set for the mouse. I no kidd! A nieghbor catches many cats on tuna in live traps. I don't target domestics, they just show up sometimes.

Super glue a single kernel of shelled corn or a sunflower seed to the pan of your mouse trap, gets them every time and will last for several catches.
