Baseplating a trap?

Ok, I've gotten great info on laminating my traps, now can someone show me some homemade baseplates. I would prefer to make my own. I've seen a couple on the net (30p nail) but that looks like it took a great deal of weld to fill it.

Any other ideas or would that work?

Re: Baseplating a trap?

Here's what my brother and I use on ours. Hard to beat at $1 each and that includes the D ring !

Re: Baseplating a trap?

Thanks long beard, I guess it would be better to get the ones that are already bent and have the D ring. I was trying to think of a way to make them, but I like those.

Re: Baseplating a trap?

I made a jig to bend the baseplates like the ones listed. I can buy 3/16 strap steel cheap. It cost me like 2.50 to make a doz baseplates.

Re: Baseplating a trap?

I made a jig, I moved my d ring to the end, works great. Look up jc Connor, he has a site, makes all kinds of base plates and lams.

Re: Baseplating a trap?

I make ones like the ones long beard uses. Made a jig and press them out on a hydraulic press. I sell a bunch at the trap conventions.

Re: Baseplating a trap?

When I first started I used 2 pcs. Of key stock and a 1/4 " bolt in a vise, you woul b surprised how good they turned out. Base plates are not hard. U can get metal at Lowes. I buy 1/2" x 3/16" strap for .50 a foot, can make 3 plates for a Duke 1.5 from that pcs.
