What am I doing wrong.....

I'm pretty wet behind the ears when it comes to trapping, but I'm busting my hump trying to learn. I have buddy that has really helped me out this year. The current sets I have out (8), were made by myself, with no help. This set here was worked hard overnight, but the fox never stepped into trap bed? Just a simple dirt hole set with Circle Maker lure in hole. A few sprinkles of urine was added after I took this picture. The only reason I approached the set today after adding lure yesterday was because I forgot my bottle of urine yesterday. Anyways, looking at these photos, what could or should I be doing different. I did notice that the trap bad has settled and is prolly 4-5" deep, but the pan is still my lowest point. Please be as critical as needed and let me know what's wrong. Will he/she be back to work again, or did I blow this set? I have been adding lure about every 3-4 days. Is that what you guys practice?

That creature is just dang wary! Keep freshenin' it up as you have, eventually it will gain the level of confidence to be it's downfall. Patience is a virtue you will acquire. Looks good!

Think twice, shoot once.

Might want to cut back on your frequency of reluring. Might be a little strong for them with doing it every few days. Give it 10 or 12 days without reluring. Try a little mink gland lure if you have some. Worked real good for me earlier this year when I had my line running good. JMO.

x2 I only relure after a rain or once a week or so and at that it really is not necessary. Lure makers will tell you that ( what I just said ) so you keep buying more lure. You would be surprised how long that smell stays there even through some nasty wet weather if it's a good lure and circle maker is that. After the season closes make your rounds on your trap line after a snow, and you will see them still being worked.

As far as your other question. I don't believe you would have spooked it. Unless the trap went off in its face, it will be back.
You say that the set is a dirt hole? I just don't see the dirt I guess.. Went back to look at your pics again, I realize there is snow but I still don't see the " dirt hole ". The depression looks good if that is were your trap is. I would get rid of all the grass if that is what you are using for a covering, hey but some do. It just looks to choked in to me..

IMO it's not the lure or urine, it's the set. That fox hung around long enough to get caught. He wanted that set, but you were practically making him jump in the brush to get it. Put backing to make him come to the trap side of the stick. You had backing around the entire thing. Put your trap where u will get him if he just walks by

There's dirt under there. I tried to blend it somewhat with the surrounding grass and also received some snow cover.

This was last March after a snow skif. Just a picture of one location out of many I visited that day. The last time they were lured was probably over a month. Had there been a trap there and the bed dressed up, that fox would have been waiting for me..

Yes. My trap is bedded in the depression. If your able to zoom in somewhat, you can see my dirt hole on the very left side of depression (pic #2), at say, 9 o'clock. At this point, remove the grass blending or just let it go for a few days? The the top picture is somewhat misleading. My trap bed is a good foot from grass with limb sticking up.

Re: What am I doing wrong.....

Hey this is just my opinion but I would not have the grass covering or the choking of the set with it.
If I were to come in there and use your set right now I would clear the grass re dig the hole discard that dirt in a bucket to haul away, throw straight peat down for the bed, bed the trap, cover with peat, lure down the hole, some drops of urine and done with a nice fresh dirt pattern..
And then if possible ( frozen ground ) repeat with another set left or right of that one with a different lure.
