The start of prep

Spent the day sifting and mixing dry dirt and peat moss for the beginning of the season. Have 30 gallons and shooting for 30 more before I call it a useable amount. Feels good to get things going and picking up some new land too boot.

Re: The start of prep

I got all my traps tuned and ready to be cleaned up and then dyed and waxed. Got most of my supplies already. What's your dye pot setup like?

Re: The start of prep

I run 2 pots on turkey fryer bases. Lye them one day and possibly dye them the same day, depending upon the number of them I've gotten done. Then the second day, I'll switch pots and wax them.

Rather picky about my wax and dye method, so it takes me a few days.

Re: The start of prep

Glad to see I'm not the only one that had to start doing something. Have most of mine boiled off and still sitting in the die, just need to heat them up and wax. Then at least ill have traps ready anyway.

Re: The start of prep

Got my dry dirt a few weeks ago when it was so hot and dyed and waxed 2 weeks ago. I made another couple dozen cable restraints this evening to finish tomorrow.

Re: The start of prep

I'm ahead of schedule on dying and waxing and painting traps. Most years I don't do the dying until around labor day.
Still need to pre-sift more dirt and there is always more scouting to do.
Need to put together cable stakes.
Making some mink boxes to try.
Work is never done!

Re: The start of prep

Traps died, and earth anchors made and attached, now working on collecting and making bait and lure.
