Bobcat and Fox

Hey guys 2nd year trapper here. I learned a lot buy catching very little last year. Had a cat step on my pan after an inch of snow that froze overnight. Kind of a tough luck type of thing buy I live and learn.

with that being said, I have a cat on trail cam, same area as last year. I really want to build a cubby set early and let the cat somewhat get used to seeing it on its hunting route..

how early is too early to build it? and when would you sugest I start pre-baiting.. I intend on keeping my deer carcass from this coming season in my deep freezer to throw in it.

all advice is appreciated

Re: Bobcat and Fox

I never trapped bobcats so I don't know about using cubbies for that specie.
As a kid I did trap a lot of skunks employing cubby sets.
Anytime I was afield, hunting ground hogs, hiking, hunting doves or helping with farm work I kept an eye on my cubbies and kept them in good repair anytime of year.
I suspect it wouldn't be any different with a cat cubby.

I trap mink because I don't know any better

Re: Bobcat and Fox

cats are dumb. you dont need to pre-bait as the "new" cubby wont spook them. But it sure wont hurt by any means. Keep your bait so its not visible from the air and good luck.

Now your diggin' where the 'tators are!

Re: Bobcat and Fox

So build one and try it... What do you have to loose.

Someone said cats are dumb... I don't know about dumb but if they are around they aren't the most difficult to attract.

I catch more cats in big flashy holes than any other set. I am by no means a cat trapper but I can verify that the flashier the better.... at least for the areas I trap in.
