Bobcat and Fisher

Just looked at the book they put trapping season right in the middle of Christmas. What were they thinking. How many people can leave their family to go to camp to trap? They just killed fisher season for me. And most likely bobcat season too.

Re: Bobcat and Fisher

I was not very happy when I saw the dates either, but I will try to catch one anyway. The way I see it is if they opened the seasons the Saturday before it would be on the last day of Rifle season? Just the way the calendar worked out this year. Only problem with me is that I will not kill an animal on Christmas. I always sprung my traps the day before and reset the day or two after.

Re: Bobcat and Fisher

I don't like it either....many of us have to travel to camp to trap fisher and cats...no sense in trying for just a few days...and if I am around we go up Christmas nite for flintlock season anyways...actually could still trap....go home the 24th after checking..back up after dinner the 25th...but checking a big woods line at night in the winter might not be fun....

I've actually done that in years past (minus the fisher trapping) and often don't he same Thanksgiving... go home wed after bear hunting and back up after dinner...

We'll see....girlfriend lives in Michigan so that makes holidays tough now...I was up there last Christmas.... I try to live a fair and equal life....I see it as only fair she is in Pennsylvania this Christmas...

I don't like the timing of fisher season anyways....right directly after deer season and they are known for find deer and gut piles and live on them till they are gone...tough time to try to trap em..weather always seems about miserable that week too...

Re: Bobcat and Fisher

Did you read it right? I thought they meant New Years, Jan. 1st., to Christmas 2013. That is what it is in my book. Maybe it's a misprint? Probably not....

Re: Bobcat and Fisher

I caught my very first fox on Christmas day about 40 years ago. I considered it to be a gift.

Re: Bobcat and Fisher

I'm a Christian but nothing gets a pass on Christmas day. Like longear i consider it a gift. My dad always said (and still does when he tags along) that "everyday trapping is like Christmas......you can't wait to see what you got!" So Christmas Day is just doubly good day to snag so critters.

Now your diggin' where the 'tators are!

Nothing. Absolutely nothing.

I, however, will not do it. My father believed nothing should die on Christmas Day and it passed on to me.
