Peat Moss question

Those using peat moss is this the right stuff? I was surprised at how much stuff like twigs is in it, I thought it would be finer. Also the bag says "adds water retention qualities to soil, holds up to 20% its own weight" I thought it was supposed to let water drain? Thanks!

Re: Peat Moss question

That's peat moss alright !!

You're gonna run that through your sifter just like dirt. So the twigs won't be an issue. To save time on the line, run it through the sifter beforehand and put it in clean lidded 5 gal buckets.

Re: Peat Moss question

Pour some water on bone dry peat moss and you'll see why it works so good in wet weather.
I've had step down dirtholes turn into little ponds, completely under water for hours, and when I snapped the trap off, bone dry peat moss would come floating to the top.

Damp peat moss holds water. Dry peat moss sheds water.

Re: Peat Moss question

sift it now and later you wont even need a sifter unless your using a top coat of dirt.

Now your diggin' where the 'tators are!

Re: Peat Moss question

Dry some dirtalso, fora top coat so the peat doesn't blowaway from your sets.
