keep it legal

So this coming season might bring some retired guys off the bench and some newbies out. Some rules have changed in the last few years and new guys please educate yourselves.
So lets all keep it safe and legal for everyone's benefit.
Here are the top violations from last year.
untagged traps (95) bait visible from air (64) failure to check (43) body grip outside of watercourse(18) no furtakers lic (15) disturb others traps (15) trap in safety zone (14) trapping out of season (14) failure to follow beaver trap tagging reg. (14) unlawfully set cable restraint (14) cable restraint capable of entanglement (8)

remember we have enough focus on us and our sport. Do it right or dont do it and if you see someone doing it wrong educate them however appropriate.

Now your diggin' where the 'tators are!

Re: keep it legal

Well worth the mentioning. And most are not "in" the "grey area".

I'll keep my money, guns, ammo, and health care; you can keep your change

Re: keep it legal

Thanks Bobcat, great post. Where did you find those violations and numbers? The reason I'm asking is that kind of information is worthwhile putting out at Trapper Training Classes and Hunter Ed classes.. It shows new trappers things to keep in mind while they are out in the field. If you don't mind sharing your resource it may be a good idea to show the same information on hunting violations. Thanks again!

Re: keep it legal

Got it from one of the commissioners.
Its not just trapping but all furtaking violations. But i just picked the top trapping related things off it. Figured it might save someone from getting pinched and all of us from a black eye or 2.

Re: keep it legal

Thanks for this post. Never trapped beaver. But went back and reread the reg. the beaver trap tag is an easy one to miss. A lil different than tagging other traps.

Watch your top knot.
