Re: Air Rifle

Contact representative Matt Gabler and tell him you support the PGC being able to regulate air rifles for hunting and trapping. He sent out a email that he intended to introduce legislation to transfer regulatory authority to the PGC. He needs to hear that some support this.

The time has come with today's technology.

Not sure as there is nothing introduced yet, as far as I know.

Can I ask why you would oppose the PGC being given the regulatory authority to regulate air power for hunting/trapping? They would still have to propose and gather input before any changes would occur.

The BB guns that we grew up with maybe.

We shouldn't allow folks to hunt deer with .22 rimfire either, imo, but the PGC has the authority to make that decision and thus far, does not allow it.

Point is I think they would utilize common sense if air power became legal and set criteria for them just as they do now for other firearms.

Air power is way more advanced that what many realize. Folks are hunting big game with them in other places. I am not advocating for that here but for small game and trappers, there are plenty are air rifles on todays market that have surprising performance and would be ideal for those that wish to use them.

IMO, the more we get these decisions out of the hands of politicians and into the hands of the agency that is supposed to regulate hunting, the better off our sport will be.

Re: Air Rifle

I agree that air guns today are much more powerful than our old Red Rider. If the PGC would say an air gun has to meet a specific velocity to be legal. How would it be measured, after 1 pump, 3 pumps, 10 pumps ? How would a WCO measure it in the field? These are just a few questions that would need answered. In my opinion it's just not worth it as there are too many variables.

We have the same variables already. Just one example being draw weights on bows. A Wco would need a bow scale to check everyone's bows. Not sure how many carry them?
