For all who uses

A winch for skinning. I just bought a 12 volt winch from Ebay, I actually thought it was one you plug into a wall socket, now I need to buy a battery for it or use the one off my lawn tractor. I was told I could get a converter from dc to ac. Is it worth using the battery or do they run down to often?

Buy the converter. The inconvenience of a battery going low is not worth it.

Re: For all who uses

If its a 12 volt winch you can just hook it to your truck battery..

Re: For all who uses

If you hook it to a deep cycle battery it should last you the entire season. I'm assuming you have a battery charger laying around somewhere to charge it once in a while?

Harbor Freight has 110V winches for around $100 usually. Maybe sell the 12v, cut your loss, and start over with the 110V.

Re: For all who uses

I purchased mine from harbor freight. Maybe you could hook up a battery tender to it?? Like others have stated, maybe you could use an "off-season" battery during trapping season? Good luck!

Re: For all who uses

I just rigged the winch up in my shed and am going with it, the 12V one. I hooked it to my lawn tractor and it works great. I'll take some pics later and show you all how I rigged it.
