country buyer fur prices I got

Sold this batch early may. Lonnie Zehr of NY is the buyer. Most of these were held over furs/stale goods.

Coon-eastern semi heavy
3 xxxl 20.00 each
7 xxl 15.00 ea
6 xl 10.00 ea
1 lrg 7.00
1 xxxl slt 10.00
2 dmg 7.00

muskrats
4 xxl/xxxl 12.00
2 slt 9.00

red fox

2 slts #2 32.00 each
1 #3 15.00

beaver

3 xl 40.00 ea
1 lrg 25.00
1 lrg med 18.00
1 med 14.00

1 lrg #3 7.00
1 lrg med slt 12.00
1 med slt 9.00

What is "slt" btw? Slate/unprime? Stale? Forgot to ask the buyer...

Notes: my goodness, these are good prices considering stale goods and damaged stuff, as well as semi heavy coons. I think I might just want to trap coons next season. If a 20.00 average can be gotten for these buggers...

Re: country buyer fur prices I got

slt could be slight damage..or maybe slate..

most country buyers ive been too just look at them and dont grade them on paper...

i had 2 at NAFA go eastern semi heavy...35$ top lot and 20$ for the other slight damage both 4x-3x size..

reds i averaged around 50$..my damaged went for 33$..i think you have better reds out there than i do in western PA..?

most my coon graded as damaged to some extent but all but 3 went eastern north central...even the damaged sold well...

Well FTW, I have to say, you did quite well through the country buyer! I've been going through NAFA for 3 seasons now and I'm a big believer in that but I gotta admit, you did very well!

The horizon is your starting point.

Re: country buyer fur prices I got

Thats very good prices for a country buyer. Slt is slight damage. could be a little damage while fleshing, as well asless than prime fur, rubs, scars, or not enough fleshing as far as excess flesh and fat.

These prices I'm sure of being a result of the Chinese going nuts for damaged goods over prime goods at last weeks NAFA auction. Many species were a total buy out on damaged and lesser fur but buy backs on primes and top lots.

Does Lonnie travel to buy furs or do you have to go to his place?

I didn't make it to the gym today. That makes five years in a row.

Re: country buyer fur prices I got

i think aero is right...for whatever reason damaged goods sold well...and if you look at my list, they sold at pretty good prices IMO...some of those coon were so bad i didnt think they were would sell...i couldnt believe the prices i was getting...

my coyotes too...i had a DG2 and a DG3..i got 10 and 8$ for them...the fur was horrible..one of them hardly had guard hairs..it was sorry looking..

funny i had 2 coon grade the same but in different lots...the one sold for 24$..the other has yet to be bought...it was a *sel XXL..not worried about it..glad only 1 didnt sell..it'll sell soon..if not it'll be on the Feb sale and should sell then..

something like only 52% of wild mink sold at the auction but within a day the rest were sold..

shipping is a gamble..you never know the price and what will sell...country buyers are nice in the fact that you get paid THAT day and if you dont like the prices you can leave with your fur..even with shipping and commission it is still much better for me to ship..my country buyers dont like to pay..and they are all atleast 2hr round trip..

the most i was offered for one of my reds was 30$..my lowest red graded damaged and i got 33$ for it..had a 50-55$ average with only 4 there and the one at 33$..

Re: country buyer fur prices I got

I held on to these furs due to Lonnie saying he had stopped buying( 2-3 years), and I didn't know what to do with the furs (I am great at procrastination). Then early this spring he calls me and wants to know what happened to me LOL. He is buying again. So I got all these stale furs and boxed them up and shipped them to him. Some of the beavers were from this last season though, and maybe a coon or 2. The stale stuff was in freezers on and off the whole time.

Nittany, he probably goes around some of NYS, and he has mentioned auctions and sales in ME and Canada before, but he doesn't go to PA as far as I know. Probably the price of a PA nr furdealer lisc is too steep. I just pack furs tight into boxes and ship them parcel post mail.
