Found a rattlesnake today

Sorry no pic. It was in Armstrong co, near Slate Lick & McVille area. I look it up and it looks to be a timber rattlesnake. Where there one, there is more.

Re: Found a rattlesnake today

heard you have to have a fishing lic now before you can get the permit? and if you forget to sent in your report the fine comes in the mail? info came from a buddy who has been hunting the round-ups for 20 years. far cry from the $5 permit a few years ago just to be able to "hunt" snakes. i still look for them and take pictures but i'm not giveing the fish comm. $25 to do so or the opertunity to fine me if i forget to send in the report. sounds like they are just trying to push people away from getting permits at all.

Now your diggin' where the 'tators are!

Re: Found a rattlesnake today

'cat, I agree. I always buy a permit so I'm not hasseled. I spoke with an officer in cameron county last year, he checked me; and I told him that I don't have any intent on hurting a snake, do I need a permit to catch and measure? His responce "yes, you are participating in a hunt; whether you intend on killing it or not". I'm not saying I agree or disagree/ I see both sides. I purchase a fishing lic. every year also; so that didn't effect me this year. But I disagree with it. That would be like saying "you need a furtakers lic. to buy an antlerless deer tag/ a second spring turkey tag to puchase a fisher permit...... Who knows???? I do feel that they are trying to limit "participants". The $5 permit used to be nice!

I'll keep my money, guns, ammo, and health care; you can keep your change

As I read in my book many years ago. It stated that you need a fishing license to hunt or kill a snake and the permit. I'm talking ten years ago

Re: Found a rattlesnake today

You're going to have to dig that book out and prove it. You always needed a fishing license to take frogs and what-not because they come from commonwealth waters, but all you ever needed for rattlesnakes was a rattlesnake permit. Rattlesnakes are 99.999% dry-land critters, so I'm not sure why the fish and boat commission has authority over them.
New THIS YEAR, you need a fishing license and snake permit.
