Where are all the foxes?

I started out with a few catches on fox about three weeks ago. All was good for about four days, then it seems everything went dead. Had several days with nothing. I am about 30 behind on my catch. Was just wondering if the foxes just are not there or if the warm rainy wheather has something to do to with it? I saw in the snow they walked right my dirtholes so now I am wondering if some new fox trapper has them spooked. I tried flat sets and scent post as a backup but still no fox. How are you guys doing?

Re: Where are all the foxes?

I have not caught 1 this year, not even a grey fox! I think the coyotes are really doing a number on them.

The horizon is your starting point.

Re: Where are all the foxes?

these answers are truly amusing .back as a teenager i would catch 30 to 40 fox a year ,with the numbers being about 30 to 1 greys to red. now i catch 30 or so a year and only one or two greys .how can that be if a grey can climb , a coyote sure can't so i would tend to think that the greys would be the last to be eaten up. however if that is true why is it i catch mainly all reds now. also ,as i always state when the coyotes are all deer eaters threads come up ,who can show me the stomach contents of a yote that there is proof of deer being eaten ,or fox. i will be willing to bet none. nearly every coyote that i catch ,and i really don't try to catch them much anymore , i always cut the stomach open to see what they are feeding on and have never found any sign of deer or fox in them , always mice , birds and squirrel .

Re: Where are all the foxes?

i find that odd that you dont find deer in the yotes. around here every pile of yote poop is full of deer hair and earlier this year there was a nice buck that was hamstrung and the hind quarters half eaten that clawed its way to a neighbors yard. not saying they are killing all the deer just that they do kill them. also seen what they can do to a red in a trap.

Now your diggin' where the 'tators are!
