Blond coons

Me and my friend had a blonde coon in a DP yesterday. I was wondering how rare are they since i havent ever seen one but I am new to trapping this year and have only been around it a little bit in the past. Wondering if they are worth more money or if we should tan/mount it since it is pretty cool looking!

Re: Blond coons

It really would be cool if you could post a pic of it! I've seen pictures of them but I've never seen an actual one.

The horizon is your starting point.

Re: Blond coons

I'd get it mounted. I would say pretty rare being that I never saw one alive/in the wild.

There is no such thing as a stupid question, just stupid people asking questions.

Re: Blond coons

awesome! we need pics!! coon come in 5 colors that i know of....blonde, cinnamon, black (fisher coon) albino, and normal...

ive treed literally thousands of coon..ive been running dogs a good 15 years and probably look at at least a couple hundred coon a year..ive NEVER treed anything out of the ordinary...

my buddy treed a cinnamon once..kill season was over though and he tried for a long time to get it treed the next season with no luck..

id have it tanned to keep, have it mounted, or id sell it to the taxidermy market...sometimes taxidermists will pay good money for rare colored critters..just gotta find the right person that wants it...personally id probably keep it for my own collection..but that is me...that 1 coon though could buy you a bunch more traps if you find someone that wants it badly! biggest thing for selling to the taxidermy market is freeze it whole or have it skinned perfectly for them..which i wouldnt even attempt myself..
