it is not an option - you must get the card/certification to use snares. I thought the class was excellent though and well worth the time. My son was not interested - wish he was into it.

Big catch circles in the snow make it worth while:

Re: late season snaring guys /girls

I recently took the class and thought it was very informative. The teachers I had took the time to show us the all the details and a few tricks on how they work and where to set them. Although the class is a requirement to be able use restraints I would highly recommend this class to everyone. It is also a very useful tool that may get you permission to trap farms that maybe you weren't able to before with footholds.

Re: late season snaring guys /girls

I took the class, and thought it was worth it. One of the main advantages is that CR's will keep working even when most footholds would be frozen down. Two years ago when I caught my first fox with a CR, it was during an ice storm and every single one of my footholds was frozen down. Even having them all bedded in dry dirt with flake antifreeze didn't stop them from freezing, but I had a fox in one of my CR's. Plus it's just another way to enjoy trapping. After making the same sets over and over, it's kind of nice to have a change up partway through the year. Good luck on your line!

CR's in pa can be up to 7 ft in length, so i would guess that's a 14 ft circle!

The only con I can think of is...it doesn't start earlier!

Another tool that's quicker to use and easier to check in my opinion.
