Nightfisher -- I understand better now why people hate us. No mention that coyotes could have killed and eaten the womans two dogs!!!

Re: Proper disposal

Yes it does give a bad name. Forums are always full of macho talk towards the antis. But it's not the anti's we need to fear, there's not enough of them to make a difference. It's our own indifference to the sensitivities of the vast non-trapping public, and that includes a lot of hunters that are not keen on trapping. Incidents like this have farther reaching consequences than an anti spouting off. We need to be sensitive to those that are not trappers and not do things that offend non-trappers. Every business and profession has non-applealing aspects to it and a smart professional keeps those aspects away from the general public's view and brings to light the positive and finished results.

A couple years ago I saw a few skinned coon tossed on an uphill bank in plain view along a dirt road. It was as repulsive to me as a trapper as if it had been a bag of garbage. They could have just as easy found an out of sight place to toss them.

Re: Proper disposal

It's safe to say that antis far outnumber trapper numbers so your claim makes me scratch my head..

Re: Proper disposal

Scratch all you want but according to statistics antis are about 1% and trappers about 1/2% of the population, that's the facts. Both numbers are irrelevant when it comes to voting. You're not going to change the opinion or perspective of the antis and they ain't going to swing us. But bad acts like the OP post WILL swing those that previously had no interest one war or the other in trapping before reading things like the above, and they are the vast majority. So again from my previous post the importance and emphasis should remain on the non-trapping public.

Re: Proper disposal

I once had to clean up a neighbor's stupid mistake of putting coon carcasses out for the garbage pickup. Something got into the bag and pulled them out. I tossed them all in the back of my truck and dispoded of them properly, which is what the neighbor should have done. Too lazy to drive to the back of their parent's property which is waaaay off the road? Unless someone else dumped them there...

Re: Proper disposal

Carcasses are supposed to go out for garbage pickup as they are municipal waste.

Either way -- non-trappers far out number antis and trappers times 100 (maybe 1000). They control the "public opinion". Having trapping seen in a positive way will help all of us. This video just points out how one bad decision by one trapper COULD impact all of us. Keep in mind this just happened (finding the carcasses). I will be anxious to see how far this goes since the press has already "sensationalized" it.
