Run the high banks and follow the water down to the normal flow

Wait another day for it to drop some more, and keep your eye on the weather.Rivers can be tough to trap if fronts are constantly moving thru
I'd wait for good levels and a few straight days of good weather.Coons you can hit hard and fast

I don't know how things work where you trap.
I never did much good coon trapping when setting
in big water, i.e. rivers, larger creeks.
The best I did was when making dirt holes up
on the high bank.
But you can do as you like.
Good luck.

I trap mink because I don't know any better

Re: advice on trapping the river when its high..

Run Duke DPs on the high banks, Use fish oil as a trailing scent down to your footholds, as a pocket set pipe set etc. To make it a bit better take a old can from veggies your wife cooked the night before etc, Throw some bait in it punch some small holes in it I use my drill 1/4 inch and add it to your set about 12-16 inches higher then your set, It will be a trailing set when water is up and when water is down works as my next best thing!! Give a raccoon what they want but do not let them have it!!! If the Water is high no problem your New Duke Dps are above the surface and working so unless you get a major Flood you will always have traps working. Just what works for us!!! Good Luck Guys, and Gals

Re: advice on trapping the river when its high..

Good advice posted above. Follow the water line as it drops. Set feeder streams, corn fields and woodlots. Set heavy.
Place a 'water marker' at several loctions. A large stick is what I use (stuck at water's edge the first time thru) to see how the river is going up or down.
Best of Luck on the river line.
