Rabbit trapping

Ive hunted for rabbit, but never though about trapping for them. Whats required to set traps for rabbit? Id assume id have to take a trapping course and get the trappers license. Is that all i need? Id like to set rabbit run snares in the backyard but want to make sure im legal to do so.

You maybe watching too much Yukon Men on the History Channel.
Nothing mentioned about trapping rabbits that I can find.....

Trapping
It is unlawful to take furbearers through the use of fish hooks, snagging hooks or any other hooks of similar design, or implements that are not
lawful traps. A furtaker’s license is needed to trap coyotes.
Mink & Muskrat: Nov. 17-Jan. 6, 2013; no limit
Coyotes, Foxes, Opossums, Raccoons, Skunks & Weasels: Oct. 21-Feb. 17, 2013; no limit
Coyotes & Foxes (Cable Restraints): Dec. 26-Feb. 17, 2013; no limit
Trappers eligible to use cable restraints for foxes and coyotes can now keep non-target furbearers that are incidentally captured in a cable
restraint during seasons in which those furbearers are legal for harvest.
Bobcats (WMUs 2A, 2C, 2E, 2F, 2G, 3A, 3B, 3C, 3D, 4A, 4C, 4D & 4E): Dec. 15-Jan. 6, 2013. Requires a furtaker license and a Bobcat
Hunting-Trapping Permit. Limit of one per permit.
Fishers (WMUs 2C, 2D, 2E, 2F, 2G & 4D ): Dec. 15-20. One fisher per license year, but all licensed furtakers may obtain one permit. Permits
can be purchased on the PGC website (www.pgc.state.pa.us) by clicking on “The Outdoor Shop,” or through any license issuing agent. There
have been no regulation changes regarding the types of traps allowed or sets that may be used to take fishers during this season.

Re: Rabbit trapping

Yes ok thanks for vomiting up the text from the game book.

It was a simple question. I wanted to know if I can snare rabbit. A simple yes or no would have been sufficient. Not sure why I'm allowed to hunt rabbit but not trap them.

Because rabbits are classed game animals, not fur bearers.

I trap mink because I don't know any better

You ask a question, get a good answer with a direct quote from the hand book, and then respond like this. Go crawl back under your rock you ungratefull ( can't say it on here).

Sounds like someone needed to vomit it up because you apparently can't read. When your next topic goes unnoticed, that post is why. If you felt embarrassed because of your shady idea, you could've just deleted the thread instead of bashing the guy that gave you the proper answer.

Re: Rabbit trapping

Thats kinda like. Why can I hunt coyotes all year long but can only trap them in trapping season? If you start setting snares for rabbits. Rabbits wont be the only thing being caught. And the last I checked the only thing we can use is cable restraints from December 26th till the end of the season for fox and coyotes only. Doesnt say anything about bunnies.

Re: Rabbit trapping

As far as I am aware, the only legal rabbit trapping in PA is by permits given to beagle clubs. This is trap and transfer only and for a designated amount of time, usually this is late winter thru early spring. The only other instance, I think, would be a homeowner conducting damage control.
