coon skinning?

do you guys skin your coons? do you do like i do the old way by hand or do use the winch automated way with clamps and pulleys? I am anticapating catching about 20 + coons this year hoping for more but you never know how its going to pan out.

Re: coon skinning?

coon are IMO simple to skin...make the opening cut and ring the front feet and pull it down..strip the tail..pull..pop the front legs pull..cut the ears pull..cut the eyes pull...cut the nose and go on to the next..pulling a coon hide isnt tough..iffin i were doing 20 a DAY i'd make a skinning machine to save my back...

Re: coon skinning?

I'll be skinning by hand again until I get a skinning machine built in my new shed.

Re: coon skinning?

mink, never said i did not have time i was just wondering what all of the experienced trappers on here used. I can do a coon in about 10 min or less so thats not the problem, besides that i am retired and like to mess with do it your self stuff like maybe building a winch just for something to do.

Re: coon skinning?

I am cool with that Tom, one way to do it is a hanger or a leg snare if your using a table.

Re: coon skinning?

On a choker chain at the bottom of the tree it was shot from, when out with the dogs. 5 min or so.

And the trapped ones, you'd have to ask the skinner. lol
