When asked how you dispatch.

When a landowner asks you how you dispatch, how do YOU answer? A property i have access to is having problems with fox taking her birds but is not a big fan of trapping. When she asked me if I shoot them when caught i couldn't lie and was basically put on the spot to tell her my method of dispatch. I don't think she liked it but she needs to get rid of some fox so as of now it remains one of my properties. What would you do in this situation?

Re: When asked how you dispatch.

In your case I would tell her that you shoot. Tell her you shoot everything. Then, when you make a catch and she is not walking arm in arm with you, you dispatch in your normal fashion, [no graphics here please] then pull your revolver or rifle and fire a single shot into the ground. She will have probably have heard the shot and then some time later see you strut out with your dispatched critter and put 2 and 2 together. Perception is everything.

If you can't pull that off you might want to consider passing up this location.

I trap mink because I don't know any better

Re: When asked how you dispatch.

I dispatch using a very fast and humane method. That should be enough.

Re: When asked how you dispatch.

If something seems awkward in how someone asks, I just say I shoot everything. In the case of water trapping, such as beavers, I say "quick kill trap that snaps on the neck".

X 2

Landowner: How do you dispatch?

Answer: The fastest and most humane way possible.

Landowner: Could you be more specific, how exactly do you kill your catch?

Answer: A well placed shot causes instant death.

Eh...wot?

Re: When asked how you dispatch.

No landowner ever ask me either. But I trap mostly for crop and chicken farmers who just "want them all dead!"

I can see where some of the yuppie horse farmers might ask though...if they would even consider allowing trapping on their "farmettes"

Eh...wot?

Re: When asked how you dispatch.

I agree with Dietsch's train of thought, but OldMink's idea sounds like the best option (BMP) in this this situation. I do want to try and promote trapping in the best way i can and possibly open 1 person's eyes to what it's really about.I did inform her that when critter's numbers aren't kept in check things like she is dealing with will eventually happen and disease is likely to take cotrol of the population. I tried to be a good/thoughtful trapper....I really did!

Re: When asked how you dispatch.

LOL yeah with PA open carry, just wear your dispatch gun on you when you are getting your permissions in case you have a woman or a yuppie landowner who has to know. Of course you might scare some of them off, and they think you are some kinda cowboy LMAO.
