trapping state lands

ive heard lost of different things from different people and just want a few more inputs, this year im taking my trap line for coon and muskrat up north to our cabin to trap some when we go hunting for deer cus most of the time we dont go out in the morning for deer sleeping in this is my vacation of the year lol. there is a couple of swampy ponds and a large stream near our camp an i want to trap it but its on state game lands. now you can hunt the state forest so i guess trapping is allowed just the risk of losing traps but very few people trap or even travel the place im planing on trapping so i figure ill be fine not like i paint my traps pink. So i gues my questions are?
1) is there a limit of how close DP traps can be to water?
2) what is the best way to keep hides if i dont strech them at camp with limited freezer space?

From September to April my world revolves around hunting the rest is preseason.
