Lure Testing

Just wanted to show a pic of a lure test station and what I consider a positive response to the lure. The lure is a food based scent for canines intended for use at hole and flat sets. I made a vertical hole a few inches deep near a mud hole where I could see tracks.

Here are the results the first night. I consider it a good thing to get a first night reaction as some canines may wait for the lure odors to calm down a bit. The stick was removed from the lure hole and bean sized gob on the end was eaten. The hole was dug at to allow the animal to access the odor. The lure attracted a target animal which was a red fox (tracks at bottom of photo). There was no evidence of rolling on the odor.

Tests like this show evidence that a lure has potential. The lure needs to be tested on real trapline conditions in fall weather. I have found that mild food lures like this one are attractive all year round, but may not emit enough odor for very cold weather.
