Fur Buying Process

I've normally been tanning what I catch, but have been thinking about getting into selling. I normally havent caught much, but i do plan on making more of an effort this year than the past years. Anyone want to give me any inside tips and what the process is like.

Re: Fur Buying Process

If you have been tanning your hides than you must be really good at skinning and fleshing. All you would need to do is stretch the fur on wire or wood stretchers. (Wood makes a nicer pelt) If you know of a fur buyer in your area then you could go to him or go to your local PTA fur auction. Also, you can ship them straight to the the big auction houses like NAFA or FHA and skip the middle man.

The horizon is your starting point.

Re: Fur Buying Process

The main thing I was wondering about was the payment of furs. If you were to take it to a fur buyer will you get paid there or do you wait until the actual auction is over. Also is there any permit or anything that i would need to get beside the PA furtakers to trap.

Re: Fur Buying Process

Don't need a permit to sell furs just your furtakers tag #.If you take them to someone like Eplers, you'll be paid that day.If you ship your furs, you'll most likely do alot better but have to wait for the check. They do post pick up sites for places like NAFA.This is where you can drop your bagged furs off to be sent to auction
