Snapping Turtle Market ??

I'm considering getting the commercial license to sell snappers this summer. Does anyone know buyers in the northeast, particularly the wilkes barre scranton area? this would be my first time catching to sell and there is not a whole lot of info on the internet. I dont have a problem catchin the critters im just worried about finding buyers...i appreciate any help/advice or ideas

Are you using cages or hooks?

Plan on mainly using hooks with some free hand catches

I asked the same question back when I was a kid trappin em out of our farm pond.My dad told me to call a certain restraunt and sure enough they were interested and would pay me $4.00 each. This sounded great till they told me I had to deliver them live. Needless to say I never sold any to em.

Most won't take them with hooks in them.

Re: Snapping Turtle Market ??

I'd have no problem with cleaning them and selling just the meat either, obviously for a higher price..why is being cought with a hook and line such a big deal?...its not like the hook is left in their throat

Re: Snapping Turtle Market ??

theres no way to know what kind of hooks were used and certain coatings on hooks dont go with the food departments allowances. but luckily they are easy to catch in traps also just a larger initial investment

Re: Snapping Turtle Market ??

also when they are caught on hooks the hook remains in them until the are butchered.
