Drowning sets

Ok I dont trap and don't plan to.But I enjoy reading here on what you all do and have been watching F&T's show. They were trapping beaver and showing how to make the set.But how does it work. They missed something as I didn't see what holds the beaver at the deep end of the set. Can someone explane what I didn't understand with this set..

Thanks from a non trapper

Re: Drowning sets

There will be a wire to a rock or cinder block that can be tossed into the deep water, anchored on or near shore, on the wire is a one way sliding lock, like a flat washer bent 90 degrees with a hole in the edge of the washer for the wire, when the beaver dives the lock slides down the wire but it can't slide back up, and the weight is too heavy for the beaver to lift.
